Our washer has the following problem. Here are the symptoms:
-Washer does not spin but it does pump water
-The drive belt is slipping and burning
-I removed the agitator (the plastic part in the middle of the tub) and there was nothing jammed in there.
-i put a new belt on and no change
-when i took off belt and ran it the drive motor spun

Follow-up question: Is this part serviceable? Is it an all or nothing

Remove belt and try to find cause of jam. Turn pump pulley and tranny pulley both ways. If jammed in spin direction you might have something caught in tub.Shine a light in tub and check for something. If everything is ok, you just might have the wrong belt. Washer belts are made to act as a clutch, ie. the wrong belt will cause problems like this.

:):D

Awesome advice! I have a GE stackable washer/dryer combo that had this exact problem! Burning smell, tub wouldn't move.

For my job I use small screwdrivers that can clip in my pocket like a pen. One had jammed in the tub!:o Better job checking my pockets from now on.

My unit is ~ 15 years old. The belt now looks glazed and just generally old. Since I have the washer open I think I will order a replacement belt.

Is this a good idea? Seems like I'm due.

Thanks,

Chris

For the Frigidaire washer, they have a sad history of partially or fully jamming of the tranny, just check.
