Dryer does not run when let go of start buttom

Dryer starts when I press the start buttom but stops immediatelly when I let go. If I hold buttom down it runs.

Please post your model numbers off of your machines, should be located on the dryer (open the door and look around the opening) Nat

Open the control panel and located the tech sheet. On the tech sheet in the wiring diagram locate the start switch and follow the lines test all components in that line for continuity you can trace it that way. Without seeing the tech sheet myself I think when you hold the start button down it bypasses the door switch(going from memory). I will try to locate the tech sheet on line and look for certain.
