Whirlpool washer fills with water to set level, but does not agitate, spin or drain. If the control knob is pushed in at any part of the cycle, it makes a buzzing noise. Could it be the lid switch?

The first thing I would check is the lid switch. - The part number for the lid switch is AP3094142 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool washer Model LA7680XTW0Gene.

Lid switch checks OK with ohmmeter; motor wiring also checks out OK. What's next? Capacitor or actuator switch? Can the lid switch check out Ok and still be bad?
