I have a Whirlpool Type 111, Model LSR5132JQ1. I can't get the water to drain. If I turn the cycle knob, I can get the agitator to spin, but when it gets to the end of the cycle, it just stops. Looking around, I can see that the mechanism that gets pushed down when the door is closed is loose (almost detached). Is this something I can fix on my own? I'm not too knowledgeable about washers, but I'm willing to take it apart if I can figure out what to do.

That's the lid switch. You can do the job. If it has exposed screws that you can see from above, just tighten them. If not, you may have to partially remove the cabinet (easier than you might think). Let us know.

After you mentioned the lid switch, I looked around online and found this video on youtube: YouTube - Washing Machine Lid Switch Replacement (part #3949247)I can do that. If the lid switch is not just loose, but broken, can I replace it with a lid switch from a washer of a different make? Oddly enough, I just happen to have another washer in my garage. Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, lid switches are brand-specific.
