My dryer would stop in mid cycle, then after pressing the start button a few times it would start back up, eventually it would not start at all. after replacing the motor I pressed the start button and herd a hum but no start. Now when I press the start button there is no hum.

The first place to start checking is the power source. Do you have 240VAC (or somewhere near that) at the outlet? At the terminals where the cord connects to the dryer? Does the light come on when you open the door? Press in on the door switch with the door open, as you try to start the dryer. Does this happen in all the drying cycles? Let us know what you find.

Thank you so much for responding. THe power outlet did read around 240. there is no light. and this happens every cycle. when I put the new motor in and pushed the start button the dryer hummed and the house lights got dim. now absolutely nothing happens.

You definitely have a locked motor. It could be the motor itself is bad; maybe something jamming the blower fan; or maybe the belt is threaded wrong or tensioned wrong.
You'll need to open it up and see. Hopefully your new motor isn't damaged.
