Hello, I have a Whirlpool oven with a Direct Ignition System. The broiler works fine, but the oven doesn't stay lit. It'll light and stay lit for awhile, but before the food is completely done, it'll shut off and won't start back. I can hear the ticking, when it's trying to light, but it won't light.
I've looked at other postings with the same issue and they suggest replacing the bake burner and igniter assembly because a poor design, restricting proper air flow. But it has work fine for all these years and I can't see that being the problem. I also removed the assembly and it looks clean as a whistle.
Does anyone else have any other recommendations?

Does anyone else have any other recommendations? Melvin, I'm sure you'll need the DSI spark module, Part number: AP3672576
That's the weakest link in the spark ignition system. Here's an excerpt from a service update from 2006, It also applies to all WP built gas ranges If your serial number falls in the date range stated in the notice, Order the reccomended burner kit, as well as the DSI. KitchenAid Gas Slide-In And Freestanding Ranges All -0 and -1 models built before Code Date XT08 CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS: Oven shuts off during the Bake cycle and food is not cooked. Oven will not light, or will light and then shut off. CAUSE: Intermittent bake burner operation. CORRECTION: The bake burner and bake ignitor have been modified to assure consistent oven ignition and performance. Model numbers will be changed to -2 to implement this change. Order and install a new oven burner and electrode assembly. Part #8191123.
Good Luck,
