I have 2 problems with my gas range. the oven doesn't seem to hold it's temp properly and when I set the unit to the Broil position, the oven burner turns on. After a short while the preheated light comes on and the oven burner turns off. the broiler burner never turns on and the igniter for the broiler doesn't turn on either.
I am guessing that the only thing that could cause this behavior would be a bad control panel. What should I check before replacing such an expensive part?

It could be a bad broiler igniter. Part number: AP2934763

Really? a bad broiler igniter could cause the lower oven burner to turn on instead?

While the oven preheats, BOTH burners are activated. This makes for shorter preheat times.
