Gene. Gene Entire evaporator was covered with thin coat of frost, I cleaned the condenser coils under the fridge with a vacum and air compressor last week, they are spotless. Both fans are running when they run. I am thinking something is intermitent here, I just checked and temp in fridge down to 38 now but it is empty and I know for sure evaporator has no ice at present time. John

John,
It's very hard to say what is wrong at this time. Very strange behavior.
You have to keep the thermometers in both compartment and monitor the temperatures twice a day for a few days. Try not to open the doors too often and make sure the doors are not ajar.

Gene. Gene I went a head and ordered new timer and thermostat from here, they were pretty inexpensive this way I will know everything has been replaced at least. Thanks for your help. John

Hi, I just found this forum and I'm trying to do these steps that are posted at the beginning of this thread: "4). Using a flat screwdriver, slowly turn the shaft in the middle of the defrost timer clock wise until it clicks to switch from the cooling cycle to the defrost cycle." "5). Wait about 10 to 15 minutes, open the freezer door and see if you can hear a sizzling noise. If you can, then the problem is the defrost timer which has to be replaced." So, I did step 4 with no problem. The fridge stopped and I waited about 15 minutes. When I opened the freezer door, I don't think I heard the sizzling noise. I mean how loud is this noise suppose to be? I was expecting something like eggs frying or maybe Rice Crispies with milk and I didn't get that. So, I waited some more and checked about an hour later. I still didn't noticed the sizzling, but the fridge came back on and when I checked the defrost control, it had moved. Does that mean the problem is not with the defrost control and I should go to step 6? I did noticed that more water collected at the inside bottom of the fridge. Does that mean anything? Thanks

If the defrost control is OK, how do I get access to the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat? I took a look at the back and everything except the bottom is sealed. Do I get access to them from inside the freezer? Thanks.
