My dryer starts and then shuts off, but the timer keeps running and then I cannot get it to restart again unless I let it cool down.

Is it my timer, fuzes or thermostat???

Please help.

Most likely the problem is a bad motor.

I need the complete model number for more accurate advise. You can find it on the door frame.

As I said, most likely the problem is a bad motor. You can run a simple test to make sure if this the problem. You need someone to give you a hand.

At the time when you can not restart the dryer, open the door, push and hold the door switch, push the start button and manually turn the drum. If it'll start or it'll make a humming noise than, no doubts, the motor is bad.

- The part number for the motor is AP3497038

Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag dryer Model PYG2000AWW

Just wanted all to know that the reason my dryer would not work properly was because my dryer vent was bent shut and the dryer was overheating. It was not the motor that was bad. So, check your venting system first. It can cause lots of problems.

Thanks for your responses and help.
