I have a built in GE oven model JTP15W0W2WW that will stop working after being on for 15 or 20 minutes. It will start beeping with an error code, F2 or F3 or F5 at the time of the problem.

I had read that this problem was usually due to part WB21x5340 (seemingly superseded by WB23T10002) or a bad oven control (unsure of what part number, since looking on Appliance Parts Pros there is a visible white front panel part as well as a control part directly behind that panel).

I have tried resetting the power to the oven. This will help for a few minutes, but the errors return shortly.

I tried reading the resistance with a multimeter, but I wasn't sure of the probe positioning.

I tried replacing part WB21x5340 since it was cheap to do, but that did not help.

I would appreciate any help or advice that you can provide!

Based on you description, fail codes, you've got a temperature sensor failure and or a loose connection in your sensor harness.

Part number: AP3187983

That sensor should read 1100 ohms or less at room temperature(78 dgrs) and 2600 ohms at 800 dgrs.

The sensor should be located in the back wall of the oven just off center, near the broil element.

Apparently you already know how to access the control(clock), on the back of the clock there is a 6 pin / 5 wire connector.

Unplug that connector and check for the ohms resistance across the two white wires(pin no. 6 and pin no.4 / pin 5 has no wire) for the proper resistances.

I'm real sure your going to find your problem there, you may just want to order the sensor and replace it ?

I will order this part and give it a try. I have already disconnected and reconnected the old one several times, so I don't think that it's a loose connection at that sensor. Is there someplace else I should check for a loose connection, too?

If this doesn't fix the problem, then how would you suggest that I proceed?

Allen,

I'm 99% sure, the new sensor will solve your problem.

I'm unsure about the F5 code( no resistance on the sensor drive circuit in the control), it could be the sensor resistance is out of range so far that the control can't see it, or a loose connection in the harness.
(that would be your next move).

Follow-up:

I received the temperature sensor and installed it. This did not fix the problem, though.

Since I needed to have the oven up and running sooner than I could get another part delivered, I called up a repair facility and had someone come out. He changed out the control board and this fixed the problem.

Anyway, I wanted to thank you for your help. I was able to tell the repair man what I had done and narrow the problem down to a small set of possibilities, the first of which was the control board.
