:rolleyes:Okay, here's the deal. I had the same problem as the rest of you with teh f11 and dl stuff. I won't bore you with all the details of my so called service experience with Sears. Just let it be said I will never buy another Kenmore product as I would have to run the risk of dealing with those people again. I did discover that if you let the f11 code beep till it stops beeping and just flashes for awhile and push the stgart button, generally ine will restart at that point. We have replaced the two white relays and that worked for awhile. That guy who wrote in about changing the relays to a bigger amp got my attention. Would he please let us know where he ordered the relays from and what the part number is?I have had luck with Mouserelectronics.com regarding ordering the relays promptly but would like to put in a bigger capacity as I know the one always seems to carbon up as the amperage is too small for the current going through it. WE will try some of the other suggestions posted here. Seems like this washer has a mind of it's own when it comes to completing the cycle or not. At times it gets though, others if f11's all over the place. Seems to me, Sears should pony up and say they had a manufacturing error and will at least relall that part. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a reliable front loader? I hope it doesn't come to that but if it does I want to be ready!

I did as suggested in other forums .. I pulled the CCU circuit board from the Whirlpool Duet washing machine, replaced the two white relays with Mode Electronics 12VDC SPDT 360MW 400 ohm 10Amp coil relays (part number 50-533-1). Each relay cost me $2.50 Canadian plus taxes.
When I removed the plastic covers from the two old white relays, I saw that the contacts on one of the relays was totally burned off. When I re-soldered the two new relays on the CCU circuit board and reinstalled the unit back into the washing machine, the washer worked for only two loads before the dreaded F11 and FDL codes reappeared.
I pulled the CCU circuit board again and followed another suggestion to re-solder the circuit board contact points of all three black relays (there are six legs on each relay to re-solder) . I also added a small thin line of solder on all of the circuit board contact fins (front and back). My Whirlpool Duet has now been working fine (about 30 loads) with no error codes during the last 30 days. In total, I spent about $5.50 for parts, 1 hour of my time to go and get the relays from a local electronic parts store and about three hours of my time to remove the CCU (twice), solder in the new relays, re-solder the contacts of the 3 black relays and add solder to the CCU circuit board fins.
If you don't have a small 15 / 30 watt soldering iron, a solder removal suction tube device and solder, then that will set you back around $30.
But that's better than paying over $500 for a service call and a new CCU to be installed. Hope this information helps you save money instead of paying for a service call or a new washer.

I also replaced the two white Omron G5LE-1-VD Relays, one was visibly burnt with one of the contact pads almost completely gone. I purchased two NTE R46-5012-12 relays soldered them in and have not had an F11 error since:D $7.50 for two relays, 45min round trip to Philcap Electronics in Akron, and about an hours worth of work.

This is all very interesting. For the ccu are we talking about the microcomputer board 8182280, AP3779011
One of the responders in the past said he removed all the relay covers, ground the tops off, and covered the open tops with a piece of tape so he could inspect them easily for future detction of a faulty relay. Is this possible?

Yes, any electronics store or online retailer should be able to cross reference the Omron relay. easy fix if your handy with a soldering iron. I just got done replacing over 50 SMT LED's in the dash of my 07 Tundra to blue LED's because I hated the original amber color. The the 0603 SMD LED is about the size of a grain of kosher salt!
Using a de-soldering iron makes a quick job out of removing the relay.

I don't think leaving the top of the relay open is going to give you the angle of view that would be needed to inspect the relay, and I think it would open the relay up to dust and moisture which would just cause premature failure. Besides, if your getting the F11 error and you have gone through taking the top off of the washer, unplugging all of the wires from the CCU, and removing the board from the CCU casing, I would just spend the $7.50 and replace the relays while you have it apart.

I will say this, I've had this washing machine for about 10 years and this is the first problem I've had with it. We are a family of five and do laundry almost everyday. This machine has probably done thousands of loads without an issue. Once and awhile I've had to remove the strainer before the pump and clean out debris and baby socks that would end up in there, but that's it. I've been really happy with it.

Good advice Randy.
Is the relay failure from vibration or excess current due to bearings failing?
If not, then the fix should last a wile.
You have identified which relays fail the most, so it would be easy as a servicer to stock these so a fix can be done rather fast

I would bet that the relay failure can be attributed to vibration. Any relay is susceptible to vibration by it's design. If I was an appliance service man, which I am not, I'm a computer geek :-) But if I was an appliance repair man... I would keep a bunch of these $3.50 relay's, a butane powered soldering iron, and some de-soldering wick in my truck and I would charge at least $250 for a "CCU Replacement" every time I had a call like this.

I have the other original Omron relay hanging on the wall if I would ever need to do this again. But I doubt I will ever need to replace it again.

so you spent $ 270 for agreement, then another $ 410 for repair?

You don't have to waist your money to buy a service contracts if you know how to use a simple tools. You can return ANY part ordered from Appliance Parts Pros within 365 days. They will take it back even if it was installed.
