I have an Amana side-by-side refrigerator-freezer that keeps frosting-up (JCD2289AEB). I've replaced the adaptive defrost control board, but that didn't fix it. I shorted the connector to that board, but the coil didn't heat up. The coil reads about 100,000 ohms. Does this mean I need a new defrost thermostat? If so, can you give me the part number to order?

First thing, Your model number indicates that this is a JennAir product, not an Amana. Secondly, You should not be reading 100,000 ohms on the heater, more like 15 to 20 ohms,(unless your meter resistance was set incorrectly RX1 or 100 ohms setting) But, with that reading You've got an open defrost heater. Thirdly, If that was a reading at the defrost thermostat, that also would indicate an open thermostat, that's OK if the thermostat was at room temperature. Were it me, I would replace both, just to be safe. (this is sold as a single unit heater and thermostat) Part number: AP4069923
Good luck, :) :) :)
