I can here the refrigerator working but the freezer is not getting cold and the refrigerator is barely staying cold. I checked both temp inside toe refrigerator to make sure they are on the correct numbers and they are. I shut them off and I can here the motor come on and off but its not keepint the freezer nor refrigerator at the temperature they should be at.

Remove the back cover and check the compressor; if it's running, it should vibrate and get the condenser tubing hot.

Yes the yes its vibrating and the condesner tubing iis hot.

You have refrigeration systems problems for a pro. to look at, probably a bad evaporator leak.

Is this an expensive fix were I should just purchase a new refrigerator?

Most people get it checked by a pro. some rare cases it's fixable, but still not cheap, $200- $600
