Kenmore will agitate but not spin (findings inside)

Hi, we have a Kenmore C110 washer that recently became unable to spin.
It agitates but when it's time to spin, all I hear is the pump running.
I have read through many threads and done many tests.
- The lid switch is fine, checked it with an ohm meter - Nothing appears to be stuck in the inner tub - The inner tub spins by hand force (it's a little stiff but not overly stiff) - When washer is off, I am able to spin the belt in both directions with ease - The motor only runs CCW (looking from bottom) no matter if it's agitating/washing or (trying to) spin - I do see drips of oil on the lower portions of the guts, like oil is slowly leaking from somewhere, but no spray or mess anywhere
From what I gather, this motor and belt are supposed to begin turning in the opposite direction when the washer needs to spin? Is that correct for Kenmore also?
If so, then that is my problem and I suppose the tranny is gone.
If anyone could give me advice I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Jeff

I was so focussed on the fact that this machine was no longer spinning it never occurred to me that it's not even filling with water!
I also determined that the solenoid with the red wire was never clicking "up". The solenoid with the yellow wire, however, seemed to click based on agitate vs spin.
BUt now I am thinking that it's a bad circuit board or timer since it won't even fill. Or could this be a bad water level sensor?

Hi Jeff,
In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the washer. You can find it under the lid.

It's a Sears Kenmore (Canadian). Maybe that's why.

Yes, unfortunately there is no on-line access to non American models.

same issue; my older canadian washer is a direct drive washer. The issue is the spinner; it only works when there is a very light load or if I provide some assistance to start it spinning by turning the agitator from the top. Model number C110.4416081
must be close to 20 years old. everything else is fine. I tightened the belt but that did not solve the problem.
cheers

It sounds like you have an older belt-drive model. The motor only turns in one direction in these models. If it won't fill, won't spin, but WILL agitate (when it's empty), then you either have a bad water level switch, or a stopped up air hose connected to it. It "thinks" the tub is full, so it won't fill or spin, but will agitate.
Normally, a belt-drive Kenmore/Whirlpool will only fill or spin when empty, and will only agitate when full.

I will also empty just fine. I have reviewed other posts and am wondering if a clutch mechanism of some kind has worn down...it does work when I start it off spinning by giving it 'a hand' to start it off rotating.
