the tumbler stopped turning took off the belt but the motor seems really loose is there a spring that keeps the tension on

It has to be able to slide to the left or right when the washer is doing different parts of the cycle. Try turning the transmission pulley by hand both ways and see if you can get it to agitate.

Check for a missing motor spring on the side of the motor, part #AP4027842
|
