Not sure why. Fan doesn't come on, freezer doesn't freeze, frig doesn't cool well. No sounds from compressor.

Any suggestions?

Hi Ben,

Possible the fridge is stuck on defrost cycle. Locate the defrost timer (#20 on the unit break down diagram) and, using a flat screwdriver, turn the shaft CW until it clicks. Post the result.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Crosley refrigerator Model CNSI22M9A

Thanks for the input, Gene. After I originally posted this, I went to look at the fridge and it seemed to be working fine. It was suggested that perhaps the thermostat had been stuck and I had done something to free it. I don't know if that's the case or not, but, whatever, it's on the blink again.

I tried your suggestion. I turned cw until it shut down, waited about 30 seconds then turned some more---the fan came back on. However, it still doesn't seem to be cooling. Does this tell you anything?

You had to wait at least 10 minutes after you turned the compressor "off" otherwise the compressor could not start properly due to overload.

Turn the fridge "off" to cool the compressor down for 2-3 hours, then turn it "on" and check if the compressor is running. Wait about 24 hours and post the results.

Thanks again for the advice. I shut the power to the fridge off for three hours. When I turned it back on, I then turned the defrost reset switch until the unit quit running. After ten minutes, I turned the switch again until the unit came back on. When I did this, the unit appeared to be working. I came back in ten minutes, and the unit had not started cooling. Now it has not come on for the last several hours.

Here is a complete rundown from start to now: About two weeks ago I would noticed that the freezer was not as cool as usual. Then gradually the freezer would no longer keep things frozen. The fridge, however, was still keeping things cool. Then a couple of days ago I noticed that nothing appeared to be running but the lights. After a little investigation, I checked the thermostat, after removing the cover the unit started running/cooling and appeared to be working. The very next day the fridge was running but not cooling, it was warm inside the freezer and the fridge. Then it was suggested that I turn the unit off for three hours, then upon turning it back on, I reset the defrost switch for ten minutes. Once the all that was done the unit started running, but after ten minutes it was not cooling. Now for the last several hours it has not ran.

Unplug the refrigerator. Locate the temperature control (#1 on the break down diagram). Remove both wires from the temperature control and connect them together. Plug the power cord back in and check if the compressor will run. Wait a few hours and see if it's cooling properly. If it does then replace the temperature control.

- The part number for the temperature control is AP204178

Hi Nickie,

Can you be more specific on the problem, please? And we need the complete model number of the refrigerator.

Hello Gene,

It is a very old model you know the one that look like an old 56-57 Cadilac !! I really don't know the model but it looks like this one:
uShip > Appliance Delivery > Vintage Refrigerator 1950's Crosley Shelvador

The cooling problem can be describe like this: the temperature can not go down. It is around 9 or 10 degree !!
The freezer seems ok - it is half full of ice.

Is this help ?

Did you try to set it warmer? I do not think it is really broken. Most likely it needs proper setting.
