Water just up & quit dispensing one afternoon. Worked earlier in the day. Ice maker still makes & dispenses ice. When pushing the pad on the door front to dispense water all I hear is a clicking noise coming from the back underneath side of refrigerator. After doing some investigating on the web, it sounds like it could be the "Smart Valve" part #2305225. Before spending $80 on this part I wanted to get your opinion of what the problem might be. Whirlpool's customer service wasn't any help. Can you help?

Hi erlindsey

How old is the water filter (on the bottom of the fridge)? If it's more then a year old it could cause such problem. The water filter has to be replaced once a year.

- The part number for the new water filter AP3866834

The frig was purchased 7/2006 but not installed until 4/2007 (new construction). The filter shouldn't be bad after 5 months of use. Plus the indicator light on front panel was only half way. I have a whole house filter installed where water comes into the house plus a water softener. I tapped on the so-called Smart Valve & water dispensed again a couple of times & then quit.

Hi erlindsey

In such situation most likely the problem is a bad water inlet valve.
You can buy it for $75.86

Good luck.
Gene.
