My Neptune TL is leaking.
I just had a repair guy out here that told me it need "Central Seal Baring" for $400-$500. Of course that's not worth it, but doing some research, I found that I might be able to get away with a tub seal and o-ring replacement. He said it was making an awful noise and that it was rusted in there (on the bottom, maybe the clutch?) ...but it doesn't sound bad to me.

Should I
1. fix the tub seal and O-ring and just see if that works? ...and maybe put in a new clutch?
2. fix the tub seal and O-ring and try to sell it before it breaks again?
3. put in a new clutch and tub seal and O-ring?
4. take it to the dump?

Please help!

""take it to the dump?""....... Bring it to me :)…. Sorry I’ll come get it if you are near 19344.

Do you have bearing noise?

Raise the lid of your washer and rotate the wash basket CCW as fast as you can. Does is spin down slowly to a gentle stop after several revolutions with no bearing noise?

Have you experienced dC or uC unbalance errors?

What are the first two digit of your serial number. That is the series number of your machine.

Tub Seal and tranny o-ring are not too bad to replace if you can break loose the Spinner Assembly bolts without breaking one off. Are you leaking water onto the Clutch Pulley?

I have replaced the Tub Seal and tranny O-ring the Outer Tub bearings and just for the fun of it the Spinner Assembly upper bearing and the caged needle bearing on the Clutch Pulley side of the Spinner Assembly just for the experience on a Series 10 FAV6800A machine.

You can break loose the 1.75” Spinner nut with an impact tool. There is a Spinner locking nut and associated spanner wrench to remove and reinstall that 1.75” spinner nut. I’m not sure if this site carries it. Google this p/n 12002139 Spinner Nut Locking plate and Spinner Wrench same p/n. Don’t buy the kit buy separate items for some reason it’s cheaper. The Service Manual will show you the tool on page 48 & 49.

If you have to replace the outer tub bearings it’s a job but doable I feel by the average DIY’er. How much down time can you tolerate?

You will find the Tub Seal and tranny o-ring on this site. Take a look at this post Maytag Neptune load unbalance to give you some insight of removing the Clutch Pulley.

Let me know if I can help……Dick
