I started the dryer last night and went to bed. This morning the timer knob was half way through the cycle and the clothes were wet. I removed the back and found the red 14 gauge wire was burnt through at the ternimal with the incoming power cord. What could have caused this and what testing should I do?

Most likely it happened due to loose connection. Replace the power cord and the terminal block (if it's damaged). Here are the break down diagrams for the Frigidaire dryer Model FDE336RES2Gene.
