The recommendation to replace the motor if the mode shifter is bad comes from the GE instructions and is proved with many such cases. The power to the mode shifter coils coming from the motor inverter and it'll cause damage to the coils if it's wrong.
The mode shifter can be under the limited warranty (you are responsible for any labor charges), but not the motor. You have to verify all charges with GE prior to the service call.

Gene, I found this on another site "HL01-09. HYDROWAVE WASHERS, OPEN COIL ON MODE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY, These symptoms can be caused by the motor inverter sending excessive current to the mode shifter coil and opening the coil circuit. This can occur if the customer has lifted the lid during disengage and lifts the lid again during engage for agitate or rinse. Note that some models engage the mode shifter during the fill portion of the cycle. Check the resistance of the mode shifter coil. If there is no resistance, the coil is open and the mode shifter assembly must be replaced. In addition to the mode shifter, replace the motor inverter assembly if the part number on the motor label is one of the following:" ServiceTechHelp.com :: GE Hydrowave Washers, • Wash basket spins in agitate, • Excessive splashing sound..Unfourtunately, it did NOT include the Part Numbers for the suspect motors, do you have that list?? then i could tell definitively if my motor is part of the tech bulletin to change everything thanks

The motor is a;
175D5106G009
It looks like that is NOT identified as a Motor that need replacement if the mode shifter opens, per the tech bulletin.
thoughts?

thoughts? If you look at the page 2 where it says 2006 & 2007 Electronic model type (which is your washer) original motor label color "Yellow" and Drawing number "175D5106G009" and then it says Replacement motor part number WH20X10037. This part number has been changed by GE later for WH20X10052. This motor has Appliance Parts Pros part number AP4368247.Gene.
