Gave my Kitchenaid Washer to my son and he said the belt broke, which I assume is the drive belt. He lives in an old house with uneven floors, could this cause the belt to break and how do you install the new belt?

Hi, KitchenAid/Whirlpool has not made a belt drive washer for over 20 years. I would guess (no model number) what you have there is the direct drive washer. This washer has a motor coupler that often goes bad and needs to be replaced. This is a very simple and cheap job. To help you I have created this step by step repair guide that you can download here. Motor Coupler Repair GuideUneven floors would not cause the motor coupler to break.

Thanks so much for the info... They did replace a belt, not sure what it was for, now the machine makes a horrible grinding noise, it does work but my husband thinks the bearings are going out...sounds like time for a new machine!!! Thanks very much Linda
