You do not say which switch it is, but if you will take off the back of the console you can gain access to the switches. The switches are held in place by an "arm" with a tab that goes into a "notch". Gently lift the tab out of the notich and twist the switch and it will come out.

It is the little black switch that makes the light go and the dryer to run. It is in the front of the my Whirlpool Ultimate Care II dryer and is activated when the door is closed. Thanks for your help on this, sincerely, appreciated one.

Ok, that clears it up. This is an easy repair, the switch you are referring to is the door switch, this part here. Part number: AP3132865
To get to it, remove the lint screen and take out the two screws under the lint screen door. Then insert a large screw driver in the gap between the top and the front near the edges and pry up. The top will flip up and give you access to the front. Two screws hold the front on, and it rests on clips. Remove the two screws, lift up on the front and disconnect the existing door switch. Two screws inside the door hold it on. Replace the switch, reverse the take apart procedures and you are done!
