Excessive grinding/growling noise during spin cycle. Escalates as the rpms increase. Sounds like a bad bearing. Machine is approx 18 months old. Any suggestions?

I would pull off the outer cabinet and look at the tub seal above the tranny, if it's leaking, this would confirm bad bearings/seals. This is rather rare, unless the washer is really old.

The machine is only 18 months old. Have you heard many issues with this particular model? (Whirlpool Duet Sport Front-Loader WFW8300SW)

I didn't know it was a front loader. If you failed to use the special soap, you may have ruined the spin bearings.

We have used the recommended soap (HD) from the beginning. Is there a repair manual/prints/drawings/part list available for this model? If the spin bearing is bad, is this a difficult repair? I am a Machinist by trade and rebuild autos as a hobby.

If the machine is only 18 moths old, you should be able to get warranty coverage if the rear bearing is bad.
