I get a humming noise when I push the switch but nothing turns,I replaced the belt[which was about to break] but still am getting the same result.

Sounds like you have a bad motor switch.The contact inside the switch is frozen and the start winding is not getting any voltage.Depending on which motor your model has,2 different motors were used in the same model, the switch is easy to change.
