GE Microwave over the oven won't heat. What is the problem and is it worth the fix or should I just buy a new one. This is an over the oven spacesaver.:mad:

Whether it’s worth fixing will depend on what's actually
causing the problem you’re having with it. It would at least
be worth having it checked to determine the cause before
scrapping it. Does the display or interior light come on at all?
Or is the oven completely dead?

Everything appears to work, display and interior light. When I do try to cook something though the microwave gives off a burning smell, food remains cold. Thanks for the information.

There all kinds of possibilities, I’ll just list a few.

Burnt wire connection

Bad high voltage components, such
as high voltage capacitor or diode.
Any of which could be brought on
by a bad magnetron.

A bad winding in the transformer.

These are just a few possibilities.
Some troubleshooting needs to be done
in order to isolate exactly what’s at the root
of the problem and determine how severe it is.

De ja vu. This seems to be a recurring problem. My GE microwave is over 5 years old. Possibly one or more components have a short life span. It seems to be working properly, except that it obviously doesn't heat (a severe drawback). Since there are no odors or other indicators, is there one or more parts that are likely to be the problem? (coil, or transformer?)

For some reason, the magnetrons GE uses don't last.
Most likely that is your problem. But a proper diagnosis to eliminate any other possible causes is in order.

I have the same model and the same problem but with a somewhat louder humm than normal. I replaced the magnatrom with no results, no heating.
Can you advise further?

Chances are you didnt need the mag.
You need to check the various components
such as HV diode and capacitor before purchasing
any other parts. One of them may be shorted.

Thanks Glen--I have further INFO: Touch pad, turntable, fan, lights, all work but it will not heat. It loads up as if it were heating with a somewhat louder humming noise. I have replaced the Magnatron but with no results.(waveguide shows some discoloration from heat). With door closed i have 2 door switches with continuity and 1 without. All heat sensors appear to be working. I checked for continuity of the HV capasitor (two treminals)and got nothing. and on the HV Diode(does not appear to have been hot, nor blowing fuses) and got a reading of 16.6 BOTH ways. Can you suggest a cure? THANKS
