my kenmore electric dryer has been acting up, i first noticed that the heat wasnt working (i use the high heat setting and the "timed dry" on the timer,,,,so i took off the back and took off the lint cabinet, cleaned out that and the exhaust vent,,,looked at all the wire, none were burnt or disconnected,, i didnt take the heating elemet box off because i thought i might unplug some wires and not remember where they need to put back,,,so today i tried the dryer and air flow is good inside the dryer and outside at the vent,, still no heat,,, i also noticed that the timer will not move on the "auto dry" and the "air dry",,,which i never use those anyway,, but it does move on the "timed dry" side,,,,so i wanted to know any opinions if it is just the timer, and would a bad timer make the heat not to work,,,,,,or is the heating element bad or would it be both the heat element,,i see online about testing but i dont have the little testers,,oh i also went outside to the fuse box and switched the breaker on and off a few times,, which didnt work in this case,,,,any opinions would be helpful,,thanks:(

The thermostats have to be tested, as does the heater element. All you need for the continuity test is a simple continuity tester, if you're concerned about spending money on tools. Any of these components that does not have continuity needs to be replaced.

thanks, my dad just stopped by and had some of those testers, and he took off the heating element box and one of the bottom coils was broke in half,,, i hope this will be the answer to replace it,, do you think if the heat element is replaced would the timer work properly now? thanks for replying!

my thoughs exacly. the timer will only move with the cycling of the heating element in auto dry, works off the thermostats , also if you have white vinyl venting get rid of it asap, 9o% of all dryer fires are related ti vinyl venting, the vinyl acts as a magnet like when you colm your hait you get static electrisity and will pickup anything , recomend solid 4 pipe or heavy stle flex tube, dont use the foil stuff its almost as bad the vinyl, for every i 90'elbow is equal to 8 feet of straight pipe and usuallt the max run of a vent is 32 ft MAX.........good luck...john
