After reading this http://forum.appliancepartspros...ng-instead-starting.html and trying the hand turning trick, I thought I was in luck because it worked. However, it is a temporary fix because it won't start without a push. So does it sound like it's a wheel bearing on the motor about to sieze? I took off the back and got to the blower motor (no debris). It would turn by hand, but I don't know how "hard" it should be to turn, it certainly wasn't spinning freely, but wasn't hard either. Just about three years old, also if I need to replace the motor, should I also replace the belt or it is still pretty new? Thank you for any advice

Sounds OK. You may want to try this on a couple other dryers just to get a feel for it.

I would not bother unless the belt has cracks.

Is there a good motor replacement guide somewhere? I've fairly mechanically inclined (used to work on my '71 Cutlass all the time, can't really do so much nowadays). How long does it usually take and any usual gotchas I can avoid when working on it? I found this and it looks like it's the right one, but it looks really old https://secured.whirlpoo...a006cb80a/$FILE/L-58.pdf

Cannot say how long it will take, probably a couple hours.
Hardest part is getting the blower wheel off. Note that it is a left hand thread.
Often you have to destroy it.
Also the clips that hold the motor down can be a pain. I use a good size screw driver pushing down and out.

This site has a fair amount of good info

Well, the good news is my dryer is now working with the new motor (fast shipping by the way, I was impressed). But the dryer is now kinda loud. I'm thinking about opening it back up, but I don't know what to look for. Any ideas? By loud, I mean, it sounds like the motor is "hissing", but I don't know for sure it's the motor.

Yes I would open it up again.

Hard to say what it is without actually being there.

Try to hear where it is coming from so you can localize it.
I know that this is often not possible.

A couple places come to mind.

The drum seals maybe one of them is not on correctly re: folded over etc.
The blower may be touching it's housing or something fell in there during your motor install.
Remove the belt and give the motor/blower a fast spin to see if it is the problem.

I was having the same problem as others here. I did the hand turning trick and it worked fine for about a day, and now it doesnt work at all. I opened the dryer up yesterday and cleaned the lint out as much as I could. I'm gonna open it up tonight and see if I can figure out if there is a blockage in the blower motor, although I dont even know where that is, but I figure its back there somewhere. :D I have a Whirlpool LER6634BW2 that is at least 3-4 years old. I got it 2 years ago from a friend for like $50. I really would like to fix it myself if at all possible. I am NOT a mechanic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
