unit quit cooling, lights are on, compressor runs for 30 sec, and cuts off, did check the calrod defrost tube for continuity and it was find. Also turned the defrost thermostat on the evaporator tube. THe compressor kicked back on after I plugged it in. THe unit ran and cooled for a day then shut off. same thing runs for 30 sec and cuts off. Have power to compressor , and the capacitor is ok. Maybe the defost board, or defost thermostat?????????

Please double check the Model number,
It might be GLRS234ZAW5.

You need to narrow things down here a bit
The next time it cycles off, check and
see if you have 120 volts AC getting to
the compressor if you don’t then you can
suspect and move on to some other electrical control. However
if the compressor stops running and you are
still getting voltage to it then you need to suspect
the PTC relay or possibly the compressor itself.

ptc relay???????.there is 120 volts to compressor, I also checked the compressor for continuity between the Run,Start, Common checks out ok, also no internal grounding problem

As long as youre getting voltage to the compressor its very likely.
Im assuming that you took your reading on the back side of the
relay where the wire harness is connected to it?

If youre getting 120 volts at the compressor during
one of the times that "its not" running then then you need
to focus on that area instead of the defrost control
system.

The compressor could be fine electrically but keep in mind
if there is a mechanical problem, it would cause it to
draw more current than usual which would cause the
PTC relay assembly to trip out on over load and thereby
shutting the compressor down. But given its cost
I only come to that conclusion after exhausting
the other possibilities. There were times in the field I just
had to do a direct substitution of the PTC with
a new one in order to fully confirm my suspicions.

Hope this helps

Glen 65,
I tried a new PTC on the Frigidaire compressor, same thing. You can hear the compressor or the PTC click and the compressor quits running. I checked the power out of the PTC and no power until it resets. So it sounds like you are right concerning the compressor have a mechanical problem, cause everything electrical checks out, and the amp draw appears to be 3 amps. The diagrams shows 1.2- 1.5 amps. I'm just trying to be sure, and not have to shell out money for a compressor, that I don't need to. Any help would be appreciated

Based on your description you appear to have it
narrowed down to the compressor itself.
