Do not like the sound of "hosed the inside". If you mean that literally you may have blown the electronics.

Sort of but the compressor must be on for you to do this.
If it is on, you can remove the evaporator coil cover inside the freezer and check the coils.
Often if you only have frost in one area (usually where the freon enters the evaporator coils) or it is splotchy it is an indication of low freon.
If the compressor is running and there is no frost on the coils you may be out of freon or the compressor is toast.
If either of the above conditions exist it will be a fairly expensive repair.
Note: There is no use adding freon to a system unless the leak is found and fixed.
Often it makes more sense to replace the unit.
