is there a fuse or switch wire that i can jump to check for the problem. I think it may be the timer button is there any of those wires i can use a jumper to test and bypass the timer button?

I'd Check the doorswitch. Could be the cord. Sometimes the receptacles have loose blades. Light should still work if the timer switch is bad. Try starting the dryer while jiggling the plug.
