I put the machine back together and tried to run a cycle with the lid switch pushed down with a screw driver and that did nothing. still now agitating. uuuuggghh!!!. I was so hoping for something simple.
I will check the motor and see if it is hot after this cycle is done and water drains. what else should i check for?
not the coupler, not the lid switch, what now?

Your lid switch will make a clicking sound if it is good.

Pull the tranny and turn the tranny coupler counterclockwise, spidle should go back and forth, if not, you need a new tranny.

i pulled the motor and coupler b4. I have to actually take out the tranny, or just turn the coupler part on the tranny? i did that again and the spindle is not turning at all now when i turn the coupler on the tranny. Am i looking at an expensive fix if it is the tranny? is it worth it? would it really just go like that? it was working great, then started doind some dancing around during spin, now just no spin or agitate..wow

My washer issue was my coupler. It was a little worn on one side of the one that was on the motor. I thought it was fine because not broken or chipped and it had the shape on one side but i replaced it and my washer is doing wonderfull. so happy to have it up and running again.
