This washer knocks when the drum is spinning. Depending on the speed the knocking gets louder/more frequent. I took the back panel off, and the knocking sounds it is coming from the inside the Rear outer tub assembly (shell) right in the back of if where the Pulley - drum - reinfor is mounted. What can cause this knocking? There seem to be only 2 parts that have the potential to make this noise; the outer and Inner tub assembly with spider and shaft. Which one these could be the problem? Thanks

Probably a busted spider support, eventually another one will break and the spin basket will no longer spin. I assume you checked the shocks and support springs.

What are the chances that the outer assembley needs to be replaced as well? Since I can not get the spider by itself, I have to ge the whole: Inner tub assembly with spider and shaft. correct? >>I assume you checked the shocks and support springs. Yes I have, no problems there. >>eventually another one will break and the spin basket will no longer spin Sounds pretty final! :-) thanks

I ran the washer one more (final) time, and now I see some plastic shavings in the main drum (mixed with the clothes)... I do not think that this is a coincidence.

Not good with plastic shavings, I gues it's better than grease from the bearings. I would assume your tub bearings are going out also.
