Dishwasher became very much louder during washing then finally quit pumping water to the spray arms. Fills and drains OK but does not pump up. Just hums! This seems to be a frequent failure for Whirlpools. Whirlpool offered me 15% rebate if I purchase another WHirlpool family of dishwashers. Is the pump motor the likely problem here? IS this is cost effective replacement for a 4 year old unit?

Sounds like the seals in the pump stuck together.

This is very common problem for most of dishwashers, even the most expensive.

I do not think you need to replace the motor, just install the new impeller kit. The volute seal has to be replaced too. The cost of repair is less then $30.00

The dishwasher has to be removed from the cabinet for this job. You can find the complete instructions in the tech sheets behind the bottom panel.

- The part number for the impeller kit is AP3738238

- The part number for the volute seal is AP3039198

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dishwasher Model GU1500XTLQ2

Gene: Thanks for the help. It turns out it was the motor - took it out and the armature was fried. I managed to remove it without removing the entire assemply. Had to use a flex extension on a ratchet to get the attaching bolt out. Saved a few hours work I suspect. Got your replacement within 2 days and happily all is back working well again.
