GE Profile Refrig has stopped cooling. Purchased June 2007. Temp Contol unit appears off but if I press pads display comes on with very negative numbers; then displays goes off after a few minutes. There is also a repetitive clicking noise. Anyone know what's wrong?

Pull the refrigerator out and remove the cover off the main board (# 801 on your parts breakdown). If the clicking noise is coming from the board the board is bad. For more on this visit GE Refrigerator Repair Guide

Thanks Applianceman -- that's where the noise is coming from. Now hopefully, this board is covered by the GE "silent recall" I'm reading about in other threads. Much appreciated!

It is funny you call it a "silent recall" because I work for a GE dealer/GE independent service company and we didn’t even know anything about the extended coverage GE was giving on those boards. I actually learned about it on this forum. What good is the coverage if they aren’t going to let their dealers know about it?

Apparently, the "silent recall" is only on certain models for the same part #. What a bunch of "you know what". When the factory authorized repairman comes to the home, they type in the model & serial #s in their computers and it comes up with the msg. if covered. Mine wasn't; even though its less than 3-yrs old, which is the extended warranty on this part for other models. I complained to the repairman, and he called customer service. They ended up covering the part but it still cost me $175 for the call plus labor. At least this site saved me the $195 part cost. Should have probably done it myself, but I was concerned about maintaining the 5 yr warranty on the compressor, et al. Thanks, again!
