I overfilled my 7 year old washing machine last night and I noticed later that it sounded like it was struggling; then I noticed that it smelled hot. I stopped it, emptied most of the clothing out, and resumed. It seemed to work fine. When I put in the clothing I had removed to rewash it stopped again (I admit there was still a lot in this second load); I did not smell the hot smell, though. I stopped it, unplugged it, left it unplugged for over 30 minutes, then tried it again; just to empty the water out though. I did not have clothing in it. It still clicked. I left it off all night, unplugged, and tried again. It ran for maybe 20 to 30 seconds this morning sounding like it should. I thought it was okay, but then it started clicking again. Is the motor burned out? Thanks!

It's common for the low speed winding to burn out on the motor, you might want to run it on high speed only to see if it's ok there, otherwise= new motor time.

Thank you- any idea how much a new motor will cost, roughly (of course). Also, I guess we could just always run it on high speed if it is just the low speed that is burned out? Or would that be a problem? Thank you again!

A new motor comes as a kit, around $300, money better spent on a new washer, like a Whirlpool direct drive. For your model # maybe less for the exact one.
