I am getting a stand up freezer from my grandma and she had just had a repair man come out and fill it with freon. After that the she said it has ran and ran. it keeps the temp perfect but it is getting really hot on the outside of it. the repair man says it was normal and she didnt think so so she went and buoght a new one. Is this a normal thing or should I have it looked at? She thought it was unusual because she only heard it turn off once after the repair man left. It has a "power Freeze" button and my other question is "if it was left on, which it states in the manual that switching it back to off sets it back to normal, would it make it run constantly"?
Thank you

First it is normal for it to be warm on the sides of the freezer and if it is not warm on the sides it is not working.

I am not quite sure what the power freeze is but it sounds like something that makes it get colder which will make it run longer.

There are a lot of thing to consider when determining how long a freezer should run before reaching desired temperature. Like what shape the door gaskets are in, what the ambient temperature is or even what was the run time when it was new. Some refrigerators/freezers will run 60-80% of the time on there best day.

Basically if it were keeping temperature good I wouldn’t worry about. Just keep an eye on it because there is a chance where he soldered the lines there is a leak. It is likely that everything is ok. Frost Free Freezer Repair Guide

As Applianceman said it is probably normal but keep an eye on it.
Also make sure the condenser coils are clean. If the unit has a compressor fan make sure that it is running. Same applies if there is an evaporator fan.

I think Power Freeze lowers the freezers temperature so it will make the unit run more. This is normally only used if you are going to add a large amount of unfrozen items to the freezer. They then freeze quicker.

Here is a good link, check out Item 5 so you do not have problems when you move it.
