Gene, I don't understand what you mean by "simple bar". I've pulled the louver off, I don't see any blockages; however, the airflow isn't a straight path. It appears to flow down (inside the divider) and must then flow to the back where the coil is as the opeing in the freezer side is back by the coil. I don't have any clue how I could check the whole path. I suppose I could turn off the fridge for a few days with the hopes that if there's ice blocking the path it would melt. However, even if it melted would it drain out so it wouldn't freeze again? Thanks! Gene, What is the part number for that defrost sensor? Is it the defrost heater with evaporator coil? Thanks, Vin

Brand---Maytag Model # ---MTB2156GEW Freezer is cold, fridge is not. There is just the smallest amount of frost on the back corner of the freezer. I preformed the first check: 4). Using a flat screwdriver, slowly turn the shaft in the middle of the defrost timer clock wise until it clicks to switch from the cooling cycle to the defrost cycle.
5). Wait about 10 to 15 minutes, open the freezer door and see if you can hear a sizzling noise. If you can, then the problem is the defrost timer which has to be replaced. I heard no sizzling noise. I'm not sure as to how I can access the defrost heater and thermostat in order to perform the next steps.. The only access from the back of the unit is at the bottom. According to the schematic I found tucked inside the control unit panel the heater and T-stat are located near the top. Questions: 1) Do I access from the inside of the unit? 2) If so, from the fridge or freezer? Also I have noticed that the fan in the freezer is not running. Questions: 1) Could this be related to the defrost failure? (That’s assuming it is a defrost failure) 2) When should the fan be on? 3) What controls the fan operation? 4) How do I diagnose? Thank you for your anticipated response. Mike

Mike, I didn't check anything because the diagnostic test shows the failure of defrost sensor. I just replaced the sensor and it seems to work so far. You might want to replace the whole defrost heater and sensor since they might go together. Good luck.

Thanks, Vin Vin, If we are talking about sensor then it looks like it's shown as #25 on the diagram. I would check it for continuity. - The sensor Part number: AP4136842
