I got a one owner 53 fridgedaire for free on craigslist and was told it worked, but when I got it home and plugged it in it kicked on and immediately turned off. 10 minutes go by and it does it again. I can fix cars but know nothing about fridges and can't afford a repair man. Can someone help me?

If you layed it on it's side when transporting, then plugged it in right away, you just did $200 dollars worth of damage.

If your capillary line is rolled in a circle, you got oil trapped in there.

Ok so do I just take that apart and blow the oil out and then hook it back, good to go? Or is that a freon line?

That capillary line needs to be cut after refrigerant is evacuated, then blown out with nitrogen gas, then re-sealed, not a job for a novice.

So do all you guys think that's what is causing it to try to start and immediately quit and repeat that every 10 minutes? If so, how much should I expect to pay for that?

Maybe varnish buildup on the compressor innerds, maybe was bad when you got it. It may have allways had damaged windings. Dunno whithout looking. I have seen compressors function fine into a clogged capillary.
