GE Refrigerator - how do I get the old fresh door gasket off & new on? part# WR24x446

I can't see how to remove and replace the fresh door gasket on my GE refrigerator. The parts diagram shows a retainer strip but no way to get to it.
Any help?

There should be a strip over the screws that hold the magnetic seal in place. Usually you pry the strip up carefully to reveal the screws.

I would place the door on a flat surface and loosen all the screws, then pull off the old gasket, and put on the new. After installation, I put duck tape on the door to hold it in place, the door gasket will then pull in thus eliminating any gaps.Remove after a few hours.

I would leave the door on as you can do more damage than good when removing the screws with the old gasket. Clean the area very well. Place the new gasket in a oven warmed to 200 degrees. Then turn off. Place gasket inside. This will allow the gasket to form into the groove better.
I have tried it both ways and had the best results with the latter.

Well, I used a hair dryer on the gasket to straighten out the edges. I don't trust myself with the oven. I noticed that there were no screw tabs or holes to install it. But, there was an arrowhead shaped bead running completely around the inside center line of the gasket . I took a chance and pulled on the old gasket and it came right away from the door. The bead sits in the retainer bracket center channel. I squared up the gasket on the door and pushed the bead into the channel. Worked like a charm. And it's a very tight seal!

Hmmm.. I'm in the midst of the same project on a Maytag with top freezer and the blow dryer did no good. How long did you blow dry? How powerful a blow dryer? I'm going to try the oven now....
