I have the above gas range and the display panel is not working, only a couple of things. I can't even change temps etc. with the oven. The front looks fine. The tech from Sears came and he said I had to change the whole thing, control and control panel and w/ labor its over $700.00. When I checked on their part site I saw the parts come in two parts. He acted like it was one. Does anyone know do they both have to be changed? Does the control panel get damaged when you change the control? I felt like he was trying to scam me and when I called on the phone with them they were very nasty and I think I would rather not give them my money. Any help on this would be appreciated. Oh and it is the downdraft and I can not use that because that button doesnt work either...Thanks

Quote:the display panel is not working, only a couple of things. I can't even change temps etc. with the oven. Are you saying just some of the buttons don't respond as opposed to the "display" (aka LEDs) not lighting up? Please clarify the problem symptoms.Quote:I checked on their part site I saw the parts come in two parts. Yes the electronic control and the control panel are separate parts. Quote:Does anyone know do they both have to be changed? Only if both are defective or you didn't want to bother trying to figure out which one might be the actual cause. Replacing ' everything' is sure to cure the problem? Quote:Does the control panel get damaged when you change the control? Not usually, no. Thanks for the help. The buttons on the display panel do not work, only a few do. The leds work with the buttons that do work. If I order the control is this something that I can change myself by just removing some screws and taking out the old one and putting in the new? Thanks again Kris

Quote:The buttons on the [control] panel do not work, only a few do. That would most often be caused by a problem in the control panel's keypad requiring the whole control panels to be replaced. No special tools should be required. JMO Dan O. www.Appliance411.com The Appliance Information Site=D~~~~~~

I've had my Jenn-air (Jgs8750adb) for 3 years and have needed to replace the control panel 3 times. I was told that it is caused by heat .... note: control panel is just above the oven door! Now they are telling me that the part is not available and for $278, they will install a replacement stove. I've spent $675 already on repair costs (labor not included in warranty) so now I'll be $950 over what I shelled out when I bought this piece of junk in 2006! My choice is to shell out $278 more or go out and buy a stove for $500 or more. This range should have been recalled.
