To anyone who can help:

I have a leak on the bottom of my tub at the location pointed with a red pencil (see pic). It leaks most when it is in a spin cycle and water drips onto the transmission and "slings" it to the inside cabinet and leaks out.

What is the recommended repair parts for my model? Do you have instructions for removing and installing? Any special tools or hints?

Maytag Clothes Washer Model LAT8740AAW

Thank You

You need a Mounting stem repair kit - Maytag washer stem and seal kit, comes with hub assembly, seal and spanner nut.

Spanner wrench is required to complete rapair

David,

This is a somewhat complicated job, but well worth it in my opinion. This washer is one of the best ever made and one of the main reasons for Maytag's great reputation (that was hopelessly ruined by Neptune).

We have everything you need:

- Breakdown diagrams for Model LAT8740AAW

- Mounting stem repair kit

- Tub bearing kit (recommended to be replaced at the same time)

- Spanner wrench

- Maytag washer repair manual (FREE download, see page 101)

Post back...

Thank you for the info. I was able to replace the tub bearing and the mounting stem, no leaks.

My current problem is that at high speed spin cycle, there is a lot of "chatter". I checked the tub top cover and it is not touching the top cover. Visually there appears to be space between the tubs, when I rotate the inner tub by hand I don't hear any "scraping" or contact. Both spanner nut and clamp nut are tight.

I think it is inner tub contacting the outer tub...any ideas?

Will appreciate.

Did you have any trouble with your motor or transmission after i got wet? I am having the same problem but repairman said my motor may burn up from the water.

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I just completed this repair myself today, using the info provided above, plus this link:
http://www.applianceaid.com/tub_seal_replacement.html

But now it appears the washer is leaking from another, unknown location.

The tub seal is perfect and not leaking anymore, however, I notice a small puddle of water under the machine that forms sometime during the end of the cycle.

Any idea what this could be? It appears to come from the transmission itself, under the unit where the belts are, but I'm not 100% sure on this yet since I haven't run it for very long. There also may be some water inside the cabinet, in the left rear of the unit, near where the motor wires turn upward and head for the control panel.

Could water be trapped in the transmission from the tub seal leak, and now be slowly seeping out during the final "spin" cycle?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
