my washer will not spin. It makes a loud grinding sound in spin mode and of course does not empty all the way. everything else is functioning.

This could be a bad bearing or a brake problem. Either way you are looking at a major and difficult repair. Here is a service manual and tech bulletin that will show you what is involved.
