I'm having a problem with my top loader Whirlpool washing machine. It does everything right except the spin cycle. On extremely rare days it will spin, but most of the time it doesn't. There is no water left in basin after washing is complete except for wet, soggy clothes. Some lady at the laundramat suggested it could be a defective lid switch. She showed me where it was on a Maytag, but I don't have that little button in the back of my lid. I lost my manual due to a hurricane and can't find the location. I would appreciate any help or suggestions as to what could be wrong with my machine. Many thanks!

If this is a newer Whirlpool washer, and the motor will run in spin, you have a worn out clutch and bad brake shoes. Do the tranny coupler test in my "sticky" "replacing direct drive brake shoes".

The "sticky" is near the top of the washer section. Post results.
