My Maytag washer leaks. Took off front panel, looks like its from the drum base. I've fixed the dryer and hope you can guide me to fix this. Looking through your forums, it seems to me to be the tub bearing/mounting stem. What parts do I need and how difficult is this to repair. Any info you can give will be a big help.
P.S. You helped me do my dryer repair! It was making an awful noise. I looked up the issue on your site, ordered the parts required and used your guidance to replace the fan blade, drum roller and glides, and belt. It works great. Thank you.

There are two possible seal leaks on this model, the center shaft seal and the boot seal. If the water is coming from around the slots in the tub bearing, suspect a boot seal.
If it is the boot seal it requires a special tool to remove the tub.
I generally recommend a service call on these models for leaks, so you may want to consider replacing it. Ten plus years means you more than got your money's worth out of the machine.

Thank you for your reply. I understand I will need a spanner wrench to do the repair. It looks like I will need the #29 mounting stem repair kit and a tub bearing repair kit. there are two of those listed. #20 and #21. I am not sure which one to order for repairing this machine. Please advise which kit to order and if I need anything else besides patience and elbow grease to complete the repair.

We who respond on this Forum are volunteers and not asociated with the parts operations of APP, so you need to call them with your order and they can give you the right parts. You will need your serial number to give them.
The nuts are left hand threaded and you may need to hammer lightly on the wrench to loosen them. There are special instructions in the service manual and they are too long for me to copy and I cannot link the manual to you, but I strongly advise you have one, even if you have to buy it, before you start the job.
Good luck, hope this helps.

Thank you so very much for all of your suggestions, information and patience with my requests. This washer was purchased used 3 years ago. It has been replaced by a new one. I was asked by the owner if she thought I could repair it so it could be used as a secondary washer for her horse barn. I thought it was worth a try for the price of the parts and tool. I will replace both the center shaft seal and the boot seal as suggested. I will also join the ApplianceDigest.com site. The dryer I repaired is 27 years old! Friends say the newer models don't last as long and to keep my old set for as long as I can. Again thank you so much! I really appreciate your volunteering to help and giving of your knowledge to help me. :)
