lsg7806aaee 1997 stackable washer agitates fine but when it spins in opposite direction to drain, pump is free and drains, but after 5 minutes belt starts to smoke.motor spins free.i replaced brake assembly and adjusted the drive lug properly and it still does the same thing.i removed trans.cover, drained oil,and ckecked for spider or orbital gear wear...looked good to me.the spiral shaft turns easy both ways without binding.but when you install brake assy. and turn,it only turns free COUNTERclockwise? Any clue on this problem anyone? Thanks much! famties4@comcast.net

If the pulley is turning free counterclockwise then I think the problem is with the transmission, and given the age of the machine you may want to think about replacement.
Yes, we know these stacked models are expensive, but if you have room for a washer you can keep the unit to dry and just get a new or good used washing machine.
Good luck, hope this helps.
