Model Number: WCSE4160B3WW Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
My washer was leaking onto the floor which at first we thought was an intermittent problem. It began to leak more and more so I took it outside and took the front off and watched it run through a cycle. I suspect it is the tub seal because I see water dripping down from tub onto the shaft of the transmission. I haven't taken it apart yet but does this sound like the right part to replace? While its apart should I replace anything else like washer tub bearing, split ring etc?
Also this is the first time I have taken this unit apart. Is the entire transmission housing supposed to spin? I noticed slight movement during agitation but on the spin cycle it was spinning as fast as the tub. Just wanted to verify this was normal! Thanks for any assistance!!! First off yes it is normal for the transmission to spin during the spin cycle.
The tub seal will more that likely take care of the leak and this may be all you have to do to make the repair. However almost every time I have seen a tub seal leaking the washer has been very noisy during spin. The only way to repair the noise problem is to replace the transmission. If it isn’t noisy or you can put up with the noise it is ok just to replace the tub seal. This page should help you GE Washer Disassembly Guide |
