Default Freezer not cold enough
Model Number: ARB2217CSR   Brand: Amana   Age: 5 - 10 years

Howdy,
My probelm is similar to others here. My fridge is fine but my freezer is not.
Freezer seems to run for hours before it shuts off. Ice cubes are wet, and ice cream is more cream than ice. There is frost building up on the back wall.
I have taken off the bottom grill and sucked out all the dust bunnies and dog hair that I could. I can't get very far back because of the tight coils in the front. But I did get quite a bit. The fan I can see through the grate in the back is running fine. I have not yet taken off the back panel to see what's behind there.
Any sugestions on what to do next and what to look for? Also if you know of where I can find a diagram for this model so I can follow your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for your help.

Pull out your freezer back panel and check the frost pattern, if it's completely frozen up from top to bottom, defrost with a hair dryer, if only partially frosted, you probably have refrigeration problems for a pro to look at. It's also possible your condensing fan in the back of fridg has failed or condenser coils all clogged up, just check. Post results.

Hi and thanks for your response,
Sorry it took so long to geat back to you. I just got the chance to do as you requested.
I took the back panel off and this is what I found. There is NO frost anywhere behind the panel. It looks as if there might have been at some point or at least something was wet because there is a green residue on one of the copper lines from the big round thing up into the fridge. This line has some foam insulation around it. (Sorry for being so technical"Big Round thing" I don't know what you call it) I see one fan which is the fan visiblee through through the back panel. The fan seems to be running fine. It doesn't run hot and is running the whole time the fridge is.
Any other sugestions?
Thanks again,
Mike O

It may have been in defrost when you looked at it. When running, stick a thermometer at the back panel of the freezer and let us know what temperature you get, if not below 10-15 degrees, you have serious refrigeration problems for a pro to look at.
