One more switch to check is the belt switch. If the belt breaks or comes off the tensioner pulley the switch will open and the machine won't start.
Watch the video with this link to access that switch.

thanks a lot! just disconnected it and checked its continuity and it didn't buzz. the dryer was also full of lint, I used an air duster and if I change this belt switch, will I have to change anyting else, or should that do the trick?

If that switch is bad then that should be all! However check the belt for wear and tear while your in there.

I was wrong, I double checked the switch once I pulled it out, didn't realize there was a button (hence "switch") the belt switch had continuity. I'm back to square one. all switches and thermostats including the 3 on the back and the one beside the motor all had continuity and I still don't know what the problem is. could it be the motor?

When you push the start switch does the motor buzz or hum?

Also have you checked voltage across the incoming lines?
With the dryer plugged in, using your Multi-meter set to voltage, check across L1 and L2 for 240 volts. If this is true then check from each Line to neutral to see if they are equal 120 volts give or take a couple volts. If any or these tests fail reset the circuit breaker and try the test again.

If one Line is 130 or above and the other is 110 or below then you possibly have a loose neutral at your electric panel (call electrician to repair if so)
The motor will not start with low incoming voltage on Line 1.

The motor doesn't make any sound. I hear nothing, just the faint sound of the start switch. The voltages are all correct. Could one of the components be bad even though it has continuity? I shook the thermostats (the one by the motor) and it had something rattling in it. It was the only one I shook though, so I have no clue if the other thermostats rattled when shook?

Only the thermal fuse, the door switch and the belt switch would prevent the dryer from starting. If the "push to start" button is working properly then the only other alternatives are;
bad contacts in the timer or
a bad motor
I don't think the motor is it... so check the following
look at the wiring schematic and see what line sends power to the start switch then to the motor and check (with your multi-meter) if there is continuity from the incoming power (likely the red line connection) to the line connection leading to the motor. It will take some sleuthing of the wiring diagram to figure out which connections on the back of the timer to check.
