I have been searching threads, but can't find exactly what i need.
Bottom oven works fine.
I set top oven temp to anything 300, 350, 400, 500. It never gets there. I get a different actual reading every time i try it... 75, 240, etc but never getting to the set temp. I put a cold ( that i put in the freezer for an hour) wash cloth on the temp sensor made no diff, even an ice cube made no diff. I can hear the control click the oven on.
How do I test the temp sensor?
I have a multi meter. I need step by step instructions. If you can tell me what the multi meter dials should be set at and what reading i should get that would be great.
If sensor is not bad then what do i test next?

I cannot find any info on the given model number. Please check it. This is probably why you have not received a reply. Here is a good link on oven sensors. Look at 7, 8, 20 and 21. http://www.applianceaid.com/ele...-range-repair-topics.phpIf the unit stays in pre-heat (never shows that it is ready) then odds are that it is not your oven sensor. The unit knows that the temperature is too low and is trying to raise it but for some reason cannot. Do both elements work? Most units switch back and forth between the bake and broil elements when in pre-heat and bake modes. So if one element is shot it may not be able to reach set point. Also some units have a thermal cut-off (fuse or circuit breaker) wired info one of the elements circuit. Sorry for not noticing that you had not received a reply earlier. |

I rechecked the model number..it is the correct one 9825 VUV Magic Chef. I found the schematic and parts list on the site. I turned oven on again.....top broiler element will heat up and get it to 75*, but the bottom element never gets hot.
How do i know if i have a breaker/fuse in line with the element?
How do i check it if i do?

Found the problem. Where the wires com down and attach to the element with a connector. One of connectors looks like it may have come loose/disconnedcted and arc'd both the female and male end of the connectors are melted a bit. Enough that i cant use them again. It there a way, rather then order a whole new element (since i just replaced this one 2 yrs ago), to re weld another male connector to the element. I also need to put a new female connector onto the wire...is there a special type i need?

Unless you have a spot welder I doubt you can do it. I am not even sure if silver solder could withstand the heat.

As long as it fit tightly and iss rated for a fairly high current you should be OK.
Be sure that you get back to nice clean copper on the wire,
A poor connection is probably what caused the problem. |
