my washer's control knob that allows you to which between which kind of loads i have(white, colored, cotton, ect.) will not work anymore. its like it doesnt have a connection sometimes. as i am a mother of three i need to get this probllem resovled as soon as possible. is there a part that i need to replace or what?

It is possible there is a problem with the knob, but more likely the problem is with the control panel.
You are going to have to take off the top, then remove the dispenser, remove the screw inside the dispenser recess and the other four screws that hold the control panel to the cover, and then release the tabs that hold the control panel to the cover.
If the problem is with the control panel I suggest getting a new machine. It is an expensive part and while these models are great when they work, this particular model is somewhat unreliable and very difficult and expensive to diagnose and repair.
